Peewee AA Motown Cup Champs December 2013

The Peewee AA traveled to Detroit to take part in the Motown Cup on the weekend of Dec 6th.  Our first game was played at the Joe Louis Arena and we beat the Port Huron, Mi team 2-1.  Kids will never forget the game at the legendary Joe Louis Arena.  Our 2nd game vs the Windsor Junior Spitfires ended in a 3-3 tie.  We then went to go watch the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night and enjoy our pizza party.  The kids had a blast and woke up flat for our 3rd and final preliminary game on Sunday morning vs the Ancaster Avalanche and lost 3-1 but the best was yet to come.  We got to play the Ancaster Avalanche again 5 hours later and proceeded to dominate them and cap off our championship weekend with a 4-0 victory.
Congrats to boys on a great weekend and a great time!

Midget Sr A - Pittsburgh Champions

Over the weekend of October 25, the Midget Senior A team brought home the gold.  After going down 3-0 very early on in the championship game, the players and coaches know you never, ever, ever give up.  We didn't.  It is experiences like the one we had in the championship game that shows just what a great group of guys we have.  We slowly chipped away at the lead, and eventually late in the 3rd period took the lead at 4-3.  Add in an empty net goal, and the final of 5-3 for your Panthers was sweet reward.  Team staff cannot say enough positive things about our whole hockey family, and we hope that the players appreciate what a great situation they have going here, and continue to cement friendships and memories for life.  Many more goals to achieve this season!!  Go Panthers!!!

Minor Bantam AA - Orangeville Early Bird Tournament

6 Seconds of Overtime!

Congratulations to the Minor Bantam AA team coached by Mark Romeo on their win in the Orangeville Early Bird Tournament played during the weekend of September 13th to 15th, 2013. The Panthers didn’t get off on the right foot by losing their opening game on Friday night to the Mississauga Ice Warriors 3-1. Saturday was a different story. After back to back shut-outs in game 2 and 3 they were facing the Caledon Hawks in the semi-finals, a team that was 3-0 in the tournament. With the game tied 0-0 and the Panthers going on a 5 on 3 power play late in the 3rd, Marc Ferrari the scored after receiving a nifty pass from Christian Colantonio. A minute later Eric Fedrigoni rang one off the post and in to seal the 2-0 victory and advance the Panthers to the finals against the Ice Warriors. Their test would be even tougher. The Panthers would be 3 players short (2 due to injury and 1 to suspension) and the Warriors who had only allowed 1 goal in the entire tournament! After the Warriors opened the scored the Panthers respond with 2 goals. The Warriors fought back to tie it up after 2 periods. The 3rd would settle nothing. With only 7 forwards, Head Coach Mark Romeo knew there wasn’t a lot left in the tank for over time. Off the faceoff, centermen Justin Romeo fooled the opposition and went forward with the puck. Catching the D a little off guard and made a nice pass to Anthony Sicilia who sent a hard wrist shot over the goalies glove to win the game in OT 6 seconds into overtime!

Midget Sr. A - Brian Steele Memorial Tournament Champions

Over the week of September 9-15, 2013 the Midget A Senior team went an undefeated 6-0 en route to winning the Hillcrest Canadiens Brian Steele Memorial tournament.  The tournament featured one of the tougher slates of teams from around the city, and even saw your Panthers beat last-years city champs 8-1 in the semi finals.  After taking a 3-0 lead over the Markham Islanders in the final game, Markham fought back to make the game 3-2 late in the game.  But your Panthers battled through the adversity and secured the championship!  Great start to a promising season ahead!

Panther Hat In South Africa

Howard Levy, a parent with players on the Atom AA team and the Peewee AA team, sent this picture and posting:

"I’ll bet this is the furthest south any Panther hat has been photographed.
We have just returned from a vacation in South Africa; The picture was taken at a beach in a place called Mpekewni on the southern Cape coast."

Vaughan Panthers Minor Bantam AA Toy Donation

The Vaughan Panthers were doing more than just scoring goals on the ice last month. On Monday, December 10th, the Vaughan Panthers Minor Bantam AA Team came together as a team off the ice to buy gifts for boys between the ages of 13 and 18 years. The team dropped off the gifts in support of the Vaughan Toy Drive and Christmas Wish at Vaughan Fire Hall #79. The boys had the honour of meeting the Vaughan Platoon Chief, and get a first class tour by the team's very own firefighter Craig Floyd, one of the parents on the team.
Good job boys!
